3 Of The Best High-Quality Pure Essential Oils For Meditation

These 3 Pure Essentials Oils For Meditation are grounding and Sacred Oils used by Meditators worldwide.

Frankincense For Meditation

Frankincense (Boswellia sacra) is a resin oil that has been extracted from the gum of the Frankincense Tree typically grown in Africa.

Frankincense has been used for centuries for religious, spiritual, and therapeutic practice.  It is known by some as the “King Of Oils” for its wide versatility, its physical and spiritual value, we know Frankincense was given to the baby Jesus. Frankincense is used as an incense, perfume, skincare, and embalming due to its preservative properties as far back as the Ancient Egyptians and today.

In many Asian countries, the Frankincense Resin is regarded as edible and is used to treat a variety of bronchial conditions. In China, the Frankincense Resin is used for a variety of mouth, gum, and teeth issues. Indian frankincense (B. serrata), is widely used in Ayurvedic Medicine to help treat wounds, arthritis, balance female hormones, and for purification purposes.

Frankincense inhaled and or applied as a massage blend with a carrier oil to the body is deeply calming, deeply grounding, and very relaxing. I find Frankincense one of the best essential oils for meditation it is so deeply grounding, so deeply calming, and centering.

Frankincense Scent: Frankincense has a warm woody resin scent.

Buying Frankincense: When buying Frankincense Essential Oil make sure you choose from a high-quality product such as NYR Organics or doTerra. For those in the UK, I would highly recommend NYR Organics  for quality and price.

Myrrh Oil For Meditation

Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha) is a resin oil that has been extracted from the gum of the flowering trees of the genus Commiphora in Somalia, Arabia, and Ethiopia.

Myrrh has also been used for centuries, widely used by the Ancient Mediterranean and Middle Eastern countries, and was another gift to the baby Jesus. Myrrh used to be regarded as a very valuable commodity but no longer has the high financial value it used to have.

Like Frankincense, Myrrh has also been widely used for embalming, perfume, incense, and as an antiseptic throughout the ages.

Myrrh was widely used in many purification and religious rituals. And another one of those commonly used essential oils for meditation and sacred rituals.

Myrrh is mixed with Frankincense for many of the Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Oriental, and Eastern Orthodox Churches. Mentioned as a rare perfume in the bible by the Hebrews.

In Chinese Medicine, Myrrh is regarded as “blood moving” and in Ayurvedic has rejuvenating and restoring properties.

Myrrh is said to help support spiritual opening, when used in inhalation or an aromatherapy blend it is said to work directly with the hypothalamus, pituitary, and amygdalin glands to reduce stress and anxiety.

Myrrh Scent: Very Earthy, Liquorice Type Notes. It blends well with frankincense, marjoram, and rose.

Buying Myrrh: When purchasing Myrrh Essential Oil make sure you choose from a company that only purchases high-quality grade Myrrh Resin such as NYR Organics or doTerra.

Sandalwood Oil For Meditation

Sandalwood (Santalum album) is extracted from the Sandalwood Trees and Roots, in the genus Santalum through distillation. The Sandalwood tree is regarded as one of the most worthy trees in the world.

Sandalwood is another one of my favourite essential oils for meditation, to help me get more grounded, and add it to my bath, and skincare products. I love the strong woody masculine aroma of Sandalwood. Sandalwood is the base note for many aftershaves and perfumes. It acts as a common fixative in perfumes for more volatile scents such as citrus, exotic, and floral scents to help increase the longevity of the scent.

The Australian Aborigines have used their local sandalwood trees for food;  nuts, fruit, and seed kernels. Indian Sandalwood is regarded as extremely sacred and is known in Sanskrit as chandana in Hindu Ayurveda. East Indian Sandalwood is greatly used in Ayurvedic Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Sandalwood is a popular meditative scent in certain Buddhist practices, and why Sandalwood Incense is a popular gift to Budda.

Sandalwood is widely used in traditional and modern medicine for a variety of skin issues, being anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and anti-proliferative. It is commonly used for colds, chest issues, dry skin, mental issues, UTIs.

Sandalwood Scent: A deeply grounding, rich woody aroma that blends well with Frankincense and Rose.

Buying Sandalwood: When buying Sandalwood for therapeutic properties ensure you are buying your Sandalwood Pure Essential Oil from a high-quality distributor such as NYR Organics.

Mental health benefits of meditation in our stressful modern world. Learn why the emotional and mental health benefits of meditation are one of the most powerful life skills you can teach a child, teenager, or adult.

Why traditional forms of meditation are becoming increasingly popular in our fast-paced world.

Meditation is all about the art of awareness, conscious awareness, and state of being. In a modern world where we are bombarded with distractions, brainwashed, and conditioned to be in a state of doing.

At a time when we are overwhelmed by information and stimulus, in toxic, plastic, manmade environments. We have become constantly overwhelmed; stressed, anxious, and confused. Disconnected from ourselves, so disconnected from nature, our natural habitat. On a conscious or unconscious level, we crave a much safer space of solitude, freedom, and spiritual connectedness. Something that meditation can give us.

Meditation Infographic – Mental Health Benefits Of Meditation

Clinical and medical research on the benefits of meditation has been going on since the 1950s. Although, the study of meditation is a growing subdivision in neurological research. There is a variety of documented research on the physical and mental health benefits of meditation.

Benefits Of T.M Meditation

We know Transcendental Meditation has been one of the most clinically researched styles of meditation. Studies suggested that when T.M. was taught properly it not only reduced anxiety and stress it helped reduce PTSD in veterans.

Now as a meditator of over 30 years, who has studied a wide range of meditation styles including T.M. I have personally found other types of meditation alongside relaxation therapy are safer and suitable for PTSD.

But one thing is clear, meditation is a powerful life skill that I believe should be taught to everyone, taught in schools from a young age.

Meditation has been shown not only to reduce the fight or flight response but it helps to reduce inappropriate emotional reactions, a useful aid in anger management and PTSD.

Meditation in prisons is beneficial when taught and practiced long-term with low intensity. We know that meditating can reduce emotional arousal as seen in a clinical study using Sahaja Yogic Meditators.

Another study on the “Effect of mindfulness meditation training on anxiety, depression and sleep quality in perimenopausal women.”

Proved to be beneficial in reducing mental health issues specifically anxiety, depression, and sleep issues.

What other life skill, helps you experience inner calm, and peace amidst the chaos, sadness, and loss, in our crazy modern life?

What other skill can be as simple and cost-effective to learn? That is why the mental health benefits of meditation practice are becoming increasingly recognized.

Meditation is becoming an increasingly popular life skill and form of therapy in modern medicine. Meditation apps are becoming more popular to help with pain management and as an emotional aid for life-threatening conditions like cancer.

Ayurvedic Medicine – The Origins of Ayurveda

Ayurvedic Medicine – The Origins of Ayurveda

Ayurvedic Medicine is one of the ancient forms of traditional medicine which is in practice from over 6,000 B.C. Indian mythological texts, the Vedas refer to this traditional medicine and its importance. Ayurveda focuses on the entire body healing with the help of detoxification. This eastern medicine’s main focus is on boosting the immune system, the energy systems through natural remedies. This world’s oldest holistic healing therapy is believed to bring balance between the mind, body, and spirit for better health.

Ayurvedic medicine is considered as an alternative to many western medicines and treatments. But in fact it is a holistic treatment that can be used alongside modern medicine. In the USA, Ayurvedic medicine treatments are considered a type of CAM (complementary and alternative medicine). The origins of the vedas and ayurvedic treatment are completely holistic.

-*******

How the Vedas and Ayurveda relate to each other?

Ayurveda has its roots originated earlier than the 8th century. The Vedas is the ancient Hindu religious textbooks that deal in healthcare techniques, astrology, spirituality, politics, human behaviour etc. Altogether there are four Vedas, the Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda, and Atharva Veda. Each of these Vedas deals in specific things with relation to society and living.

The Atharva Veda is an ancient book that deals with ancient medical practices. It has a details description of Ayurveda and various types of Ayurvedic treatments using plants with medicinal values. All these books were written in Sanskrit which was later translated into Chinese, Greek, and many other languages.

How is Ayurvedic Medicine linked with your life energy?

The yogic theory believes that when the mind, body, and soul connect with each other in harmony, it brings good health. Meditation,   Relaxation and balance helps to keep them working harmoniously. It is also believed that the human body is made up of five basic elements like air, fire, water, earth, and space. These elements combine together in pairs and form life energy or doshas which controls the working of your body. There are three major types of dosha as mentioned in Ayurveda. They are:

  • Vata dosha is a combination of Space and Air.
  • Pitta dosha consists of the two vital elements of fire and water.
  • Kapha dosha consists of elements of water and earth.

These doshas control different functions of the body. Whenever there is any disbalance in these doshas, a person falls into dis-ease, becomes sick. An Ayurveda practitioner will first understand a person’s dosha and recommend a specific treatment to balance it.

What Happens If The Doshas Get Imbalanced?

Vata Dosha

Vata Dosha is believed to the strongest among the three doshas. This traditional medicine theory underlines the fact that Vata Dosha controls cell division which is the fundamental of life. It controls your bowel movements and other organs of the body like heart, blood flow, etc. Vata Dosha also controls your mind and breathing rate. There are various reasons for which disbalance occurs in its functioning. Like unhealthy and improper diet, less sleep, fear, grief, etc. Once there is disbalance, there are high chances to develop conditions like heart disease, blood pressure, stress, anxiety, and even rheumatoid arthritis. Ayurveda deals with these health issues and offers natural remedy with the use of herbal medicines, detoxification techniques, etc.

Pitta Dosha

When there is a problem with regards to your digestion, it is believed that there is a disbalance in Pitta Dosha. The energy center in Pitta Dosha controls your metabolism. Once it functions properly it helps to break down the food with the help of various digestive hormones. If you are suffering from digestion problems, acidity or constipation, it means there is a disbalance in Pitta Dosha. If Pitta Dosha stops functioning properly there are high chances for these conditions to develop. When you eat too much junk food, drink less water or expose yourself to excess heat, you are likely to develop this problem. Ayurveda deals with these health issues and offers a natural remedy to treat them.

Kapha Dosha

Kapha Dosha, which is a combination of water and earth, controls your muscle growth and body strength. It also gives you stability, makes your immune system strong and keeps your weight under control. An unhealthy lifestyle like improper sleep, eating too much sugar and fast food, etc. can disrupt it. In case it gets disturbed, patients are seen to develop many health issues like cancer, diabetes, obesity, etc. The natural herbal healing techniques used in Ayurveda can help solve the root of these problems by rebalancing Kapha Dosha.

Ready To Live A More Holistic Life

How Do You Become An Ayurvedic Medicine

Ayurvedic medicine practitioners are called Vaidya which is a Sanskrit word. In English it means physician. If you wish to learn Ayurveda and become a Vaidya there are various approved training programs. The course-curriculum covers a detailed study of dosha, yoga, meditation, and various herbal treatments. It is important you choose a properly accredited and recognized course in this area.

What are the different branches in Ayurveda?

Ayurveda medicine has eight different branches of treatment. They are listed below:

  • Internal medicine or Kayachikitsa – It deals with the overall treatment of the body with the use of herbal oils, lotions, and creams.
  • Treatment for children or Baala Chikitsa – It focuses on all treatment with regards to a child’s development.
  • Psychiatry treatment or Graha Chikitsa – It focused to cure various mental problems with the help of yoga, meditation, and deep breathing.
  • Urdhyaanga Chikitsa – This branch of Ayurveda emphasis to cure health issues with regards to eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
  • Surgery or Shalyaroga Chikitsa – Deals with any kind of surgery using surgical instruments.
  • Toxicology or Damstra Chikitsa – Deals to remove toxic elements from your body.
  • Geriatric or Jara Chikitsa – Deals with various therapies on anti-aging.
  • Reproductive health or Vajjikaran Chikitsa – Deals with infertility and sexual health.
  •

Benefits of Ayurvedic Medicine

Centuries ago there was no such thing as cosmetic or modern medicine. People only had access to natural medicine. Ayurvedic treatments focus on eliminating the root of these health issues. Using nature and a state of balance. It can be a slow but effective process to cure various illnesses using natural medicine. We all know plants have medicinal properties. Ayurveda uses those medicinal properties to give relief from different illnesses without the usual side effects associated with modern medicine.
